Duneside History

  • Duneside High School is registered as a private school under the Ministry of Basic Education of Namibia.

 

  • The school has been serving the community since 1967 when the school opened its doors on the 11th of July.

 

  • Mr I. A McDonald was the first principal of the school, from 1967 – 1978. He chose the motto for the school “Knowledge is strength”, later translated by a parent in Latin “Ex Scientia Vires”

 

  • Duneside started with Sub A until Standard 5 (Grade 7). Seventy-five learners were transferred from Hoogenhout Laerskool.

  • Duneside was officially inaugurated on 23rd October 1968.

  • On the 6th of February 1980, the Duneside Primary School officially became a High School, offering Sub A – Standard 8.

 

  • The school progressively extended every year with the first matric class in 1982 with 19 learners.

 

  • In 1982, Mr P.M Miller became Principal until 1983.

 

  • Mr D. Mitchell was Principal from 1987 – 1994.

 

  • In 1995 Duneside High School became a semi-private school under the Ministry of Education in Namibia. English remained the medium of instruction and Afrikaans was kept as a second language subject by the school.

 

  • Mrs. A. van Vuuren was appointed as the first female Principal in 1995. She served as Principal of the school for 18 years and retired in 2013.

 

  • Mrs. A. Einbeck was appointed as Principal in 2014 and is still serving in this position.

 

  • In 2013, 2014, and 2015, Duneside High School was awarded Best Grade 10 school in Erongo Region.

 

  • In 2015, the school also received the 1st Prize for the Best Higher-Level School in Erongo Region.

 

  • In 2018, to celebrate its 50th Anniversary, the school introduced the Character Development Program. The purpose of this program is to enable learners to become responsible members of society and provide them with a direction for life.
